The name of this gemstone is derived from the Greek "sappheiros" for "blue" and includes not only the blue corundum variety but also all other colors except red (ruby).
Hildegard von Bingen already used and described the effect of cornflower blue sapphire on nerves and as a healing stone for obsessions.
According to healing stone literature, the blue sapphire has a nerve-strengthening, calming effect and gives inner clarity.
