Two different minerals are combined under the umbrella term jade: jadeite and nephrite. Especially in the jewellery sector many things are often mistakenly advertised as jade, especially serpentine. The name jade (span. "loin stone") indicates that this stone has been used for a long time as a protective and healing stone against kidney problems. The corresponding Chinese name "Yü" means "beautiful stone". Jade is considered a holy stone there.

Garnet is a group of different coloured gemstones with similar crystal structure and chemism.

are members of the grenade group: almandine, grossular, pyrope, spessartine, andradite and uvarovite.

The name garnet (lat. Korn) probably refers to the often grainy shape of the pomegranate crystals or is related to the similarity to the flowers of the pomegranate tree. The classic garnet is popularly known as "carbuncle stone", the red garnet representatives being almandine and pyrope.
